Born and raised in a rural agrarian community in Nepal, Mr. Bhattarai learned about the close interlink between agriculture, environment, and livelihood at his early stage of life. Exceptional level of motivation, combined with excellent academic performance enabled Mr. Bhattarai to receive prestigious scholarships to carry postgraduate education in globally renowned institutions in Europe and India.

Mr. Bhattarai has more than two decades of experience working in forestry, natural resources, and livelihood sectors not only in different agroecological zones of Nepal, but also - from rural Africa through Latin America to Europe – in Government, Universities, and Non-government organizations. Mr. Bhattarai strives to link theory to practice in the areas of his multidisciplinary study.

Mr. Sanjeeb Bhattarai is an enthusiastic learner and educator. He identifies himself as a forester working across a range of disciplines within (agro-)forestry, natural resource management, and livelihood. His work uses both biophysical and social science methods. Mr. Bhattarai has also published in the areas of agroforestry, forest management, silviculture, and climate change.
